Instead of X-ray film, digital radiography uses a digital image capture device. This gives advantages of immediate image preview and availability; elimination of costly film processing steps; a wider dynamic range, which makes it more forgiving for over- and under-exposure; as well as the ability to apply special image processing techniques that enhance overall display of the image.
This can be used to view many areas, such as chest, skull, arm bones, leg bones and spine , and the data can be used as part of the initial diagnosis. This type does not need any special preparation and can be done immediately, although changing of clothing may be required. It is, therefore, recommended to wear comfortable clothes that can be easily changed. Wearing jewelries is not advisable.
